In this current crisis, many teachers find themselves having to move all of instruction online, and many are doing it overnight. This immediate shift is causing a great deal of stress to many students and teachers. While survival is the main goal in this transition, there is perhaps an opportunity to examine how learning online can be effective, and think of what elements teachers might want to keep as they move back to normality. In this session, we discuss aspects of designing a blended learning experience, and consider examples of some approaches and recommendations from learning science and research. We discuss challenges in implementations and how we might assess the success of a blended learning approach. We look at what it means for the teachers and how they might be supported by schools and universities.
