Please join the J-WEL team for a public webinar with OpenCourseWare (OCW) Director Curt Newton for a tour through some recent highlights on MIT OCW and thoughts on its bright future. The webinar will be held on Monday, March 4, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET. 

 

Webinar Description

In this public webinar honoring Open Education Week, OCW Director Curt Newton will discuss the current state and future direction of OCW. Launched in 2001, OCW is a free and open-licensed online collection of materials from over 2,400 courses, representing the entire MIT curriculum, and used by many millions of curious learners and committed educators every year.

Featured in Open Education Week BadgeOpen Education Week is a global event that seeks to raise awareness of free and open sharing in education and the benefits they bring to teachers and learners. Coordinated by the Open Education Consortium, the event showcases projects, resources, and ideas from around the world that demonstrate open education in practice.

About Curt Newton

As Director of MIT OCW, Curt Newton leads a team of 15 passionate and committed people in growing and enhancing the world's largest single-school collection of open educational resources (OER). Prior to becoming Director, he served as Site Curator and a Publication Manager. He joined OCW in 2004, shortly after its launch, captivated by the promise of open education after a 15-year stint in optical and data networking systems engineering and product marketing. He’s also a contributor to MIT’s climate change activities, helping launch and build the online community MIT ClimateX and co-host the top-ranked “Climate Conversations” podcast, and currently serves on MIT’s Climate Action Advisory Committee.
