Anjali Sastry is drawn to innovation at the interface of academia and society--particularly when it involves students. Her grounding in system dynamics and organizational theory, along with extensive fieldwork in Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and elsewhere, informs her investigation of business models and organizational design that bring needed services and goods, including for global health, to the underserved. She has developed and led a wide variety of teaching innovations at MIT.
Anjali's undergraduate and Ph.D. training spans MIT departments. She serves on the Board of Directors of TomorrowNow.org and educational non-profit ResearchILD. A former advisor in residence to Mumbai-based Tata Trusts, founding advisor to shift7, member of the Board at Management Sciences for Health and The Learning Project, Lecturer in Harvard Medical School's Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, and Faculty Advisor to the MIT Legatum Center for Entrepreneurship and Development, she works closely with colleagues across MIT to support innovation that reaches across settings and domains. Her book Parenting Your Child with Autism: Practical Solutions, Strategies, and Advice (New Harbinger) pairs personal experience with research. Fail Better: Design Smart Mistakes and Succeed Sooner (HBS Press) is a guide to orchestrating learning in the workplace.
