Julia Reynolds-Cuéllar is Assistant Director of J-WEL Higher Education

Prior to her role at J-WEL, Julia was Managing Director of MIT-AFRICA with the goal to create mutually beneficial connections between MIT and African partners. Included under the initiative was the MIT-AFRICA Internship Program, which sends over 90 MIT students to internships across Africa each year and MIT-Empowering the Teachers--MIT’s largest African fellowship program. She previously lived in Kigali, Rwanda as Field Learning & Development Coordinator for One Laptop per Child (OLPC) Africa. She worked alongside the Ministry of Education and the Office of the President, to improve the educational conditions of teachers, children, schools, and communities through the use of the XO laptop. She advised multiple OLPC projects across Africa. 

Julia founded Girls Preparing to Succeed (GPS) a state-renowned organization to empower young women through her alma-mater Simmons University. Her work was honored by the Cambridge City Council with Resolution R-40. Julia has a master’s in Teaching, Learning and Educational Transformation from the University of Massachusetts Boston and Kaufman Certification from MIT's Teaching and Learning Lab. 

Julia received the Simmons University Alumni Achievement Award and the President's award for outstanding work and dedication.
